Stainless Steel Reusable Grow Medium for Small Sprouting Trays, 1mm

Key Specifications:

  • Pre-Cut Dimensions: 4.5" x 7.825", fits Small (Miniature) Sprouting Trays perfectly
  • Hole Size: 1mm, great for root development
  • Material: 316-Grade Stainless Steel Mesh
  • Durability: Corrosion-resistant, long-lasting, and highly resistant to cutting or tearing
  • Customization: Can be trimmed with tin snips for custom sizing
  • Lifespan: Months of continuous use with proper care

Why Choose Stainless Steel? The rigid stainless steel mesh provides excellent structural support in the compact sprouting tray format, so the sheet stays flat while roots take hold. It is the right pick for growers who want maximum durability, aggressive cleaning options, and a surface that will not tear. Works well with most popular microgreen varieties including Sunflower, Radish, Broccoli, Arugula, Basil, Cabbage, Kohlrabi, and most Brassica family crops.

Care & Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: After you harvest, use our Microgreen Medium Scraper/Cleaning Tool to remove root residue.
  • Sanitization: The stainless steel material can handle aggressive cleaning methods including boiling water or commercial food grade sanitizers for stainless steel.
  • Caution: The edges on stainless steel can be quite sharp and may penetrate skin. Handle with care, especially during initial setup and cleaning. Edges may become frayed or bent during shipping.
  • Read our complete stainless steel care guide for detailed maintenance protocols.

Seed Compatibility

✅ Works Well With: Sunflower, Pea, Radish, Broccoli, Kale, Cabbage, Arugula, Basil, Mustard Greens, Kohlrabi, and most Brassica varieties

⚠️ More Challenging: Amaranth, very fine Mustard seeds, and other tiny seeds may require adjustments

❌ Not Recommended: Swiss Chard, Beets, and Cilantro (these perform better in soil or coco coir)

💡 Best Without a Medium: Pea varieties with aggressive root systems often perform best directly on mesh trays without a grow medium

Prefer Silicone?

We offer this same pre-cut size in food-grade platinum-cured silicone if you want a flexible surface that is easier on your hands at cleanup and simpler to handle in the compact tray format. Not sure which suits your setup? Our 10x10 Sampler Pack includes both materials so you can test them side by side before committing to a specific size.
