Reusable Grow Medium - Size: Large Sprout Tray
Growing microgreens in our Large Sprouting Trays or Deep Sprouting Trays? This silicone reusable grow medium is pre-cut to fit perfectly, giving you a clean, soil-free growing solution that lasts for months. Designed specifically for the unique dimensions of sprouting tray systems, this food-grade silicone mat minimizes the waste and mess of traditional growing mediums while delivering consistent results.
Why Choose Silicone for Sprouting Trays?
Perfect fit for sprouting systems: Pre-cut to 8" x 10" to fit our Large Sprouting Trays and Deep Sprouting Trays precisely. No trimming required—just drop it in and start growing.
Hydroponic reusable alternative: Unlike soil or coco coir that needs replacing after every harvest, this silicone mat can last for months with proper care. The 1.2mm holes provide optimal moisture retention and root aeration while reducing ongoing supply costs and waste.
Easy cleanup for tight spaces: Sprouting trays can be tricky to clean thoroughly, but the flexible silicone material makes root removal quick and effortless. Just use our Microgreen Medium Scraper, wash with warm water and free-and-clear soap, and you're ready for the next grow.
Perfect for popular varieties: Works well with Sunflower, Pea, Radish, Broccoli, Arugula, Basil, Cabbage, Kohlrabi, and most Brassica family microgreens. The reusable design maintains consistent moisture levels around roots while allowing you to add liquid nutrients directly through the mesh for enhanced growth.

Care & Maintenance
Cleaning: After harvest, use our Microgreen Medium Scraper/Cleaning Tool to remove root residue. Wash with warm water and a free-and-clear dish soap (or another silicone-safe, food-safe soap). The flexible silicone surface makes root removal significantly easier than rigid alternatives.
Sanitization between grows: For thorough sanitation, carefully pour boiling water over the mat or submerge it for 1–2 minutes. Allow to air dry fully before reuse. Sanitize after every grow.
Time investment: 5 minutes per mat from cleanup to sanitized and ready for the next grow. Many people wash and sanitize them in batches for faster timing.
For detailed cleaning protocols and troubleshooting stains, see our complete silicone maintenance guide.
Seed Compatibility
✅ Works Well With: Sunflower, Pea, Radish, Broccoli, Kale, Cabbage, Arugula, Basil, Mustard Greens, Kohlrabi, and most Brassica varieties
⚠️ More Challenging: Amaranth, very fine Mustard seeds, and other tiny seeds may require adjustments
❌ Not Recommended: Swiss Chard, Beets, and Cilantro (these perform better in soil or coco coir)
💡 Best Without a Medium: Pea varieties with aggressive root systems often perform best directly on mesh trays without a grow medium
