10x10 Reusable Microgreen Grow Medium – Silicone & Stainless Steel

Tired of the mess and waste that comes with soil and coco coir? Our 10x10 Reusable Microgreen Grow Medium offers a clean, soil-free alternative that reduces single-use growing materials while simplifying your microgreen setup. Available in both food-grade silicone and 316-grade stainless steel, you can choose the material that best fits your growing style. Both options are designed to fit standard 10x10 trays and built for long-term use.

Choose Your Material: Silicone or Stainless Steel?

Both materials minimize the need for soil or coco coir, maintain consistent moisture around roots, and can last for months with proper care. The choice comes down to your personal preferences and growing approach.

🌱 Silicone – Flexible, easy to handle, and simple to clean. The softer material makes root removal faster and is gentler on your hands during cleanup.

🔩 Stainless Steel – Rigid, extremely durable, and more resistant to cuts or tears. The firmer structure provides excellent support for aggressive root systems.

Not sure which to try? Our 10x10 Sampler Pack includes both materials so you can test them side-by-side in your setup.

10x10 Silicone Reusable Grow Medium

Key Specifications:

  • Pre-Cut Dimensions: 9.25" x 9.25" – fits standard 10x10 microgreen trays
  • Hole Size: 1.2mm – great for root development and moisture retention
  • Material: 100% Food-Grade Silicone with fiberglass core for durability
  • Flexibility: Easily customizable with household scissors for custom tray sizes
  • Lifespan: Months of continuous use with proper care and maintenance

Why Choose Silicone? The flexible silicone makes handling, seeding, and cleanup easier. This hydroponic reusable mat supports moisture retention and root aeration while being gentle on your hands during harvest and cleanup. Works well with most popular microgreen varieties including Sunflower, Radish, Broccoli, Arugula, Basil, Cabbage, Kohlrabi, and most Brassica family crops.

Care & Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: After harvest, use our Microgreen Medium Scraper/Cleaning Tool to remove root residue. Wash with warm water and a free-and-clear dish soap (or another silicone-safe, food-safe soap).
  • Sanitization: For deeper sanitation between grows, carefully pour boiling water over the mat or submerge it for 1–2 minutes. Allow to air dry fully before reuse.

10x10 Stainless Steel Reusable Grow Medium

Key Specifications:

  • Pre-Cut Dimensions: 9.25" x 9.25" – fits standard 10x10 trays perfectly
  • Hole Size: 1mm – great for root development and moisture retention
  • Material: 316-Grade Stainless Steel Mesh
  • Durability: Corrosion-resistant, long-lasting, and highly resistant to cutting or tearing
  • Customization: Can be trimmed with tin snips for custom sizing
  • Lifespan: Months of continuous use with proper care

Why Choose Stainless Steel? The rigid stainless steel mesh provides excellent structural support and longevity. This material is ideal for growers who want maximum durability and don't mind a firmer surface during cleanup.

Dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.
  • Sanitization: The stainless steel material can handle aggressive cleaning methods including boiling water or commercial food grade sanitizers for stainless steel.
  • Caution: The edges on stainless steel can be quite sharp and may penetrate skin. Handle with care, especially during initial setup and cleaning. Edges may become frayed or bent during shipping.
  • Read our complete stainless steel care guide for detailed maintenance protocols.

Seed Compatibility

✅ Works Well With: Sunflower, Pea, Radish, Broccoli, Kale, Cabbage, Arugula, Basil, Mustard Greens, Kohlrabi, and most Brassica varieties

⚠️ More Challenging: Amaranth, very fine Mustard seeds, and other tiny seeds may require adjustments. We are currently testing Amaranth further as of 1/21/26 after a customer confirmed successful results.

❌ Not Recommended: Swiss Chard, Beets, and Cilantro (these perform better in soil or coco coir)

💡 Best Without a Medium: Pea varieties with aggressive root systems often perform best directly on mesh trays without a grow medium.

Detailed seed compatibility infographics are included in the product photos.

Start Small, Scale Confidently

If you're new to reusable grow mediums, we recommend starting with a 2-pack to test the setup in your environment. Once you're dialed in, 10-packs offer better value for higher-volume growing.
