Apps
We kept both digital notes and a paper notebook for years. Sow dates, blackout times, yields, what went wrong and when. It worked until it didn't, and somewhere around the fiftieth smudged page we decided to build something better.
These are the tools that came out of that. Built by growers who actually use them, not by a software company guessing at what growing looks like. There are two, one for microgreens and one for sprouts, because the two are grown very differently.
Microgreen Tracker
Log every tray from sow to harvest. Pick the crop and variety from a built-in library of 81 crops and 286 varieties, and the app fills in the pre-soak hours, blackout days, and expected harvest date for you. Each day it turns your whole grow room into one short task list: what to soak, plant, water, move into light, and harvest. Push reminders land on your phone at the morning and evening times you choose.
Log each harvest's weight and you get a clear picture of which varieties are actually performing for you. If you're growing more than a couple of trays at a time, the guesswork adds up fast, and this is what clears it out. Growing just a tray or two? Simple Mode strips the app back to three tabs and keeps the numbers out of sight. When you start selling, it turns customer orders into planting plans and works out what each tray actually cost to grow, down to the electricity.
It works in any phone, tablet, or desktop browser. Add it to your home screen and it opens like any app, with no app store and no download. Try the whole app free for 7 days. A card is required at signup, but nothing is charged during the trial, and you can cancel any time. After that, plans start at $3.95 a month or $39.95 a year, and every plan includes every feature.
Want a closer look first? Read Meet the Microgreen Tracker for the full tour, or follow along as we set up the app and plant our first tray.

Sprouting Tracker
Sprouting Tracker is a separate app built for growing sprouts at home. Sprouts grow in water with no medium, and the whole seed, root, and shoot is eaten, so rather than squeeze them into Microgreen Tracker, we gave them their own app built around soak times, rinse schedules, and harvest windows.
Pick a crop from a library of 53, and the app sets the soak, the rinses, and the harvest window as a range of days. It tracks three ways of growing: glass jars that are rinsed and drained, stacking sprouting trays that are watered, and clay saucers that are misted and kept covered until they sprout. Seven of the crops, including arugula, basil, chia, cress, flax, lettuce, and watercress, are tray or saucer crops that can't be jar sprouted, and the app handles them that way.
Reminders arrive at the clock times you choose. Running several jars? Rounds lets you tick a group and rinse them all in one tap. Missed a rinse? Skip it in one tap and your streak survives. You can also log your own harvest weights, see cost per jar, and download a spreadsheet of every jar you've grown.
It's a phone-first web app that installs to your Home Screen on Android and iPhone, with no app store. On iPhone, reminders need iOS 16.4 or later and the Home Screen install. Try it free for 7 days, with a card taken at the start and one trial per email. After that it's $2.97 a month or $29.97 a year, and two people can share one plan at one price.
Sprouting Tracker is a record keeper and a reminder tool. It doesn't make sprouts safe, and rinsing on schedule doesn't remove bacteria. Raw sprouts carry a higher food safety risk than most produce, so always buy seed labeled and tested for sprouting from a reputable supplier. Children, older adults, pregnant people, and anyone with a weakened immune system should avoid raw sprouts and eat them only thoroughly cooked.
New to sprouting? Start with our complete guide to sprouting seeds at home, which covers the jar method and the food safety steps that go with it.
More on the way
We have a few more ideas past these two. If there's something you keep wishing existed, tell us. A good chunk of what ends up in these tools started as a message from someone growing at home.

Good to know
Our apps are owned and run by On The Grow, but each one is a separate service with its own account, its own billing, and its own policies. Accounts, subscriptions, billing, and support for Microgreen Tracker are handled at microgreentracker.com, and for Sprouting Tracker at sproutingtracker.com, not onthegrow.net. Your onthegrow.net login won't carry over, and nothing you buy in the store includes a subscription. A Microgreen Tracker subscription won't cover Sprouting Tracker, and the reverse is also true, since the two are separate apps.
