Collection: Seed Starting Trays

Seed starting comes down to two pieces: a solid flat underneath and the right cell size on top. The Bootstrap Farmer 1020 and 1010 heavy duty flats are the base layer. They hold up to being stacked, moved full of water, and washed between rounds without cracking at the corners the way thin nursery flats do. Everything else here is sized to sit in them.

For cells, the 128 cell plug tray packs the most starts into a flat, which suits lettuce, brassicas, herbs, and anything moving on quickly. The 6 cell inserts go the other direction for tomatoes, peppers, and squash that need room to size up before transplant. The 5x5 shallow tray is for microgreens rather than transplants, where you want a short profile and no cells at all.

The tradeoff on cell count is simple. More cells means more plants per flat but a shorter window before roots start circling. Fewer, larger cells buy you extra weeks.
